Entry 5
Somewhere in the Falaise Gap campaign...

By: Sgt. Howard

... General George Patton, under flag of truce, meets with yet another SS Commandant who has simply had enough. Contrary to common scuttlebutt, the highly-vaunted SS is just as capable of surrender when overwhelmed as anyone else. In fact, a good many of his Commissioned POWs have complimented his grasp of combat as one professional to another.

Once more, a pistol is pulled from the holster and offered butt-first to the now- famouse General when an urgent spluttering of a badly abused engine offends the dignity of the moment... there is a pause in the ceremony as the participants try to discerne the meaning thereof... when an over-heated, battered "KübelWagon" carreens around the corner on two wheels. At the wheel (and seeing double) is PFC 'BJ' Storey. Seated next to him is TSGT 'Skipper' Howard, hoisting his fourth or fifth jug of Calvados and howling like a mad dog. In the back seat, an inebriated PFC "Moose" attempts to prevent an equally inebriated local... er... shall we say, er... "Victory Girl"...? from tumbleing bustle over bunderbuffins out of the rig. The smoking, protesting "Bucket Car" squeels around the party, comming within a gnat's whisker of the iron fence, then weaves down the road and out of sight with it's well-oiled cargo.

The General is completly stunned. His XO is dumb-struck. The German Commandant is somewhat bemused while his two aids are shocked. Not much discipline... but such spirit! "Had I such troops as this... I am not sure to encourage or shoot them," states the Alte Hasse with a wry grin...

The worst part is... the General knows who these three rascals are! This is the crew of the "Tin Lizzy", his finest RECON group...engaged in their idea of good, clean, wholsome fun... except the Main gunner is not with them. TCPL Joseph Wells is likely back at the tank, reading his bible.

Captured gear does not need to be accounted for until it is reported- the VW will be reported when it gives out. It's only a rental. At least they are not destroying US property, thinks the General to himself as he accepts the Commandant's Walther PPK...
