US SNIPER
By: Graeylin

These first shots show him with the standard Springfield 1903 model sniper rifle, with the Weaver scope (not the Unertl, like the Pacific Marines used). This is the model that most US snipers used in Africa, Europe and the Pacific until late in the war.

These shots show the same soldier outfitted with an M1D, the M1 Garand rifle with the small Weaver scope. This model wasn't built and sent out until around June of 1944, so most people in the summer and fall in France still had the 03 Springfield model. The M1D continued in use through Korea, being phased out as the M14 became available.

Both rifles were hand modified to accept the scratch built scopes.
