DML OSCAR MCKINNON
By: Rich

Oscar McKinnon, Private, 2nd SAS Regiment, N.W. Europe 1944.

I got Oscar for Christmas 2004 and had to pack him away for a move a short time later. Recently while rebuilding the TUS De Lisle silenced commando carbine I dragged old Oscar out in hopes of mating him with it. When the De Lisle is finished Oscar will make a return. I really did not do as much to modify this figure as others. His webbing which is that really nice King and Country DML version was given a Blanco effect by dipping in a very thin solution of Dylon's OD dye that 11B1SG sent me. Thanks again Scott. Blanco was a clay like substance that came in varying colors that the Brits rubbed into their web gear to give it different colors for certain applications. Added were the Sykes-Fairburn combat dagger as well as the Commando boots with Vibram soles. Both came from the BBi SAS Douglas Caldwell.

He came with a set of brown gloved hands but I used a similar set with bendy fingers. This allows him to hold his cup better. Figuring that he might be having a tot of SRD Rum on a cold night. I've seen a variety of cup colors in my research and decided to use one in OD for this figure. From this British figure with an airborne maroon beret to this date, DML has done them with more of a pinkish color than maroon. I've been giving them a wash of thinned artists acrylics of crimson mixed with a tiny touch of black. To the Bergen rucksack were added a buckled strap above each side pocket, and another 2 to the bottom for the bed roll in this set. These were stitched in place according to two diagrams of the pack. The BBi coiled toggle rope hangs from the strap on the left side. The figure came with a smooth non wool looking Battle Dress uniform. For the time being I am assuming these represent the denim battle dress made in the U.S.
