CLUB PROJECTS

Here are a couple pictures of my JD Sherman I bought from MARKV.

I know it doesn't look like much now but I have the vision that in a little while and a few cans of spray paint, this will be a decent, low budget project.

I traded some items to a Sniper Joe (local club member) for a busted up Hasbro Greyhound Scout Car and salvaged everything I could off of it. I also salvaged parts off an old TUS HumV, a TUS SS body neck post, a bunch of hardware I had out in the garage, an SOTW 30cal machine gun barrel and a set of tools I got from 21st Century awhile back. The only thing I had to buy extra were two strips of brass stock to make my light guards.

Keeping in mind that I'm not as crafty as you guys are, I struggled with ways of making the light guards on the front of the tank. So many guys told me different ways to make and mount them to this molded plastic hull. None of which I was comfortable with. I finally took an exacto knife and sliced into the body and with the aid of a pair of vise-grips, pushed the ends of the guards into the tight slot of the plastic. Then I did the same thing with the supports for the guards. This is a no glue, no solder sollution to my problem. I can add a bead of hot melt around the different pieces to create the illusion of welds, I just haven't gotten there yet.

I found an old SS body neck post that had been broken, laying in one of my drawers. I decided to make it my ball for the forward machine gun. It's a little better than what was molded on the front of the tank. Then I cut off the barrel from an old SOTW 30cal and with a bit of hot melt glue, stuck it inside the ball of the neck joint.

Again, wait till this gets painted and stenciled with white stars........ Notice the ever present hot melt glue gun in the background on the workbench.

$50.00 for the tank and $2.00 for the brass plus odds and ends around the house, not a bad winter project. My Marines can hardly wait.
