BELGIAN VOLTIGEUR
By: Minuteman

I’d like to introduce you to Jean-Pierre, a Cavalry 1st sergeant of the elite Belgian Voltigeurs - 4 ‘eme R’egiment de Chasseurs ‘a Cheval. It is a mechanized division and its primary role is recce. I used a TUS German paratrooper. Instead of describing the proccess of making the figure, I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

The references I used were Combat and Survival magazine Jan 99’ish for the article on the Cha Che divisions, and Soldier of Fortune magazine August 95’ ish for the rifle. I scanned some pictures for references. The Voltigeurs have a very interesting history dating back to WWII. During the Cold War, it is believed that the Cha Che divisions have a life expectancy of 20 minutes after the Russian onslaught. They were simply counted on to delay the enemy’s advance so the Belgians along with the allies could respond with a counter attack. At the present they served in numerous peace keeping missions, been deployed in Somalia, Bosnia etc. That’s the main reason why I picked this particular soldier to customize. Note: The lack of heavy equipment like flak jacket, backpack and other gears. Trade off protection/survivability for speed and mobility. He is armed with a Hasbro Fabrique Nationale .223 rifle with removable rifle grenades that I made using drinking straws and reinforced with putty.

My special thanks to Napalm in the AM (Hasbro kevlar helmet), Awesome Wally (Villain boots) for their help in trading with me and to Checkmate King 2 who gave me technical advice.
