MY FRIEND EDDIE (JEFF MALMBERG)
THE FILM MAKER

By: Hogie309

. . . the crickets were going to sleep, as the sun rose over the tree-line on the still sleepy Mulva River. The river was still that morning, so still, that the algae on the surface looked like a thin green rug. My friend Jeff was coming to Marwencol from the opposite direction, than what's always on film ( I've been trying out new locations lately ).

Jeff, an independent film maker, wanted to film something really strange but powerful and beautiful yet tragic, but not too tragic, yet with drama and romance and surrealism all rolled into one. He heard of a place like that in Belgium, and he was on his way there to film it, with a four-Marine escort :) The first Saturday I went to film this episode in the morning, with all of them in the raft, and after the seventh photo the raft tipped over. Everyone was soaked, including all of Jeff's camera gear. I had to wait until Monday for everyone to dry off, and then I went down and filmed the rest of the episode, like the film director that I am :)
