CADILLAC OF THE SKIES
By: Hogie309

. . . Captain Stoudamire's Squadron Commander, had just approved the Bill's request to voluntarily go and guard a Belgian town called Marwencol, so he can become one of the 'Marwencol Allied Volunteer Squadron'.

He jumped into his craft and cranked over the 10,000 hp 21st Century M-5 engine, and taxied onto the airfield. He was ready to pull the brakes and push the throttle forward, when his engine caught fire (for real !) and the great motor burned itself out and melted together, then stopped working. *When I was filming this scene and started to smell electrical stuff burning, by the time that smell registered in my brain, smoke was pouring out of the nose and blowing back in a steady stream, inside the prop-wash. Instead of unhooking the 21 C. 12v. tank battery from the motor wires, I let it burn and filmed it :)

I filmed the scene until the motor burnt out, and then I captured the smoke lazily coming out of from behind the spinner, in the sunlight.

I had a minor 'SF'. . . Determined to film Bill flying his ship into Marwencol, I went around to the front deck and secured Bill's P-51 to my setup for filming pilots and their ships up in the air, supposedly flying. The next day, I hammered out the burnt out motor, still smelling like burnt electrical wires, and replaced it with a 'Stinger' 20-turn (whatever that means), high performance racing motor in it .

I happily went outside and set up the scene that I had in my mind the next day and filmed the rest of the 'Cadillac of the Skies' episode. This is where 'Chairborne' lands in Marwencol, while some of us who are already there are just hanging around and talking, and we don't know that Bill's coming to help us defend Marwencol. . .

Respectfully Yours sir, Cpt. M. E. Hogancamp, AVG
