LIBRARY DIORAMA
By: Napalm in the AM

This is my diorama that is on display at our local library. The Houston Public Library has several different branches, this one being in Katy. The librarian displayed several books on mummies, Egypt, pyramids, etc. on top of the case for people to check out if interested. Basically, the story goes that 3 Egyptologist have discovered a burial chamber in the "Valley of the Kings, west of Thebes. Found in this chamber was a statue of Anubis, cart with linens and other funerary items, gold jewelry, canopic jars, mummy tomb and solid gold sarcophagus. There is a passageway shown that leads into what may be the Antechamber.

Overall view of display case with library books on top.

Closer view of diorama.

Lower level: walls & floor made of painted cardboard and back wall covered in gold print wrapping paper. Hallway made of foam blocks and black fabric.

Top level: basically a piece of plywood with 4 legs. Top is covered with paper mache for texture and aquarium rocks have been glued in place.

Anubis is a off brand 12" figure covered in paper mache, head is made of Sculpey III and painted. The decorations are scrap pcs of fabric, acrylic and fabric paints. The photographer is Jaqueline from 21C Villians series sporting a mixture of Hasbro & 21C clothes and gear.

Tomb constructed of a block of styrofoam glued to plywood and painted. The edges were lightly sanded to round them off. I tried to make this a very tight fit between walls and roof. The figure here is Hasbro's "Secret of Mummy's Tomb" set. He also has a $1 store lantern, 21C map case and SOTW long handled pick.

Closeup of gold burial neckpiece, made of gold beads and wire (walmart).
