GRAN SASSO RAIDER

Here is the next set of 21st Century Fallschirmjager pics. The subject being 21st Century Toys version of a Fallschirmjager from the Gran Sasso raid to "rescue" Mussolini. Now, this set was something of a bitter sweet pill for me to swallow. I had been researching the WWII German Fallschirmjagers quite intensively, and was initially quite disappointed with this set. Two glaring historical inaccuracies, and the poor execution of some of the items included with the figure were hard to ignore. That being said, I have come to be less critical and just enjoy the set for what it is. This figure was another recent eBay requisition.

Of course I had to do some customizing, but not too much. The tropical shirt has junior officer shoulder boards, FJ jump badge, Iron Cross, black wound badge, and bevo Luftwaffe eagle from Dragon. The breast eagle on the jump smock, and the bevo eagle on the Meyer cap are from Connecticut Valley Insignia. The front lace jump boots are Dragon, and the 2nd Ed. straight grip FG-42 was given a leather sling. That's all, the rest is all O.E.M. from 21st C. All in all, a nice Fallshirmjager offering with lots of gear. Not perfect, but still workable.

Yep, I found the same problems with the set as you did old buddy, but I really liked this one too in the end. It's good to see him back in action again and the little details you've added really buck him up. Special thanks for sending him in and sharing him with us. - GL
