...Sarah and Savannah Wilbanks (heiress' to their Father's New Waverly, Texas, oil empire), heard
about a mythical town called Marwencol and heard of our plight. So the two of them set out to gather together what
supplies they could from donations in the U.S., and set out to collect volunteers that would take the journey with them.
Jaqueline's sister Madeline, from Florida, heard about the journey and volunteered to go. Madeline hadn't seen her sister since the war started. The United States Navy donated to the cause one of the USS CALIFORNIA's many jeeps that she has on the pier. Then Sarah got some guy in Omaha, Nebraska to sell her one of his many surplus jeeps. The fuel is from New Mexico and the supplies are from Indianapolis, Indiana. The Army Brass "felt the need" to send a Captain to take over my command. They seem to think that I've gone nuts... |
