CMP, 1ST DIVISION, PANTELLERIA, SICILY
JUNE, 1943

By: Rich

Corporal, 1st Provost Company, CMP, 1st Division. Pantelleria, Sicily June, 1943. During the course of May and June the Italians had 6,200 tons of bombs dropped on them. And, the moment the British waded ashore the Italian garrison surrendered. The Corps of Military Police then had 11,000 POWs to round up and search.

The color plate is from Osprey's Men-at-arms "The British Army 1939 - 45 (2) Middle East & Mediterranean" As much as I would have loved to have found the DML Star Trek TNG figure CPT Picard nude body for sale online to make this figure, I just couldn't bring myself to pay $80.00 for the complete figure. Instead I chose one that I'd had on hand for some years. I recall his name is Perry, but not much else. So, I'll refer to him now as Corporal Perry.

Corporal Perry is almost all DML with a very few exceptions. The rank chevrons are CVI and the 1st Div triangle patches were cut from the perimeter cloth from the same CVI rank set. The 6mm wide equilateral triangle proved to be more difficult than I had originally thought. I tripped over a Helix Sketch Master template. It's a rather small template with a series of triangles, octagons, squares, and circles and it saved the day. Once it was cut out, I applied some white glue to the edges and allowed it dry before applying.

I kept my rendition of the figure as true to the color plate as I could with one exception. He was listed as wearing P37 webbing in Musketry Order without Entrenching Tool. This would have included the water bottle, but it did not appear in the plate. I added it because in my opinion you just don't perform any military op without water.

The leggings and webbing are DML's King & Country version complete with strap tips. Making this a very easy figure to bash. I do not recall who the watch is from. I have a collection of watches from WWII to modern from a variety of companies.

The cap is from the DML Bob Richardson CMP figure from about a year ago. It has some drawbacks but it was usable. I had to heavily coat it with hairspray and managed to shape it. It was really out of whack along with the others when I received them. The chin strap was not adjustable, so was not used as in the color plate. It was also black and had to be painted brown.

The Bob Richardson MP brassards turned out to be a waste of money. They are oversized, the wrong color, and the block lettering is not only the wrong font, it can hardly be seen as painted on the cloth. It also has a high sheen. I borrowed this brassard from my first MP from many years ago. He was from a company that only produced two figures that I know of then apparently went out of business. Plan to order some of the newer brassards and MP patches from both Patches of Pride, and One Sixth Scale King in the very near future.

Another awesome figure from you old friend. I really really like this one! Special thanks for sending him in and sharing him with us. - GL
