Here are the photos of the end result of the custom PKM conversion/scratch build project. Also included are photos of a custom painted resin RPK-74 in 1/6th scale. The PKM started life as the FN MAG machine gun that came in the Ultimate Solider AK weapons set III. Scratch built mods include sculpy stock with sheet and rod styrene detail, wooden grip with new trigger/base and guard, new rear receiver cover, belt feed switched from left to right side, layered sheet styrene carrying handle, forward receiver detail removed, gas regulator removed, gas block beveled, bi-pod added, and new sight tower and muzzle brake added.
A big shout out to Rich for all the help, technical advice, and wood stock painting technique tips. The wood parts still didn't come out as nice as I'd hoped, but they look much better because of Rich! The RPK-74 unpainted resin kit was purchased on eBay from mudhens66. I had some issues with the thin wall casting of the bi-pod legs, and as a result, the left leg does not pivot out. Still, I feel the end result came out quite nicely. Next up will be the kit bashed Spetsnaz gunner to carry the PKM, as soon as he's done and photographed. |
