CUSTOM HELICOPTER PROJECTS
By: Ilaf

Here are some preliminary picture of a couple of helicopters that I am putting together. Main purpose of the project was to learn more about bending plastic, not sure that I got any better but at least I can duplicate the process.

At this point I ran out of green paint, that is why one is still primer grey. I still need to build the blades and the rotor pieces. Not sure what I am going to do with the section under the exhaust port... it should be tapered closed, but due to design error that will not happen. Maybe just a flat piece to close it off. The hole in the tail section is supposed to be there, but not that big. I am not going to build any doors on the cargo area, just do not need them.

Now since this is a big piece, I did build the tail section so that it would come apart from the main cabin. I did not show the screws that were holding it together.

Now the hardest thing to build was the glass parts in the nose of the choppers. They are not shown in any of the pictures... Basicaly I took the plastic box from the Blade II figure and heated it to form the pieces. Well it will work, but does not look that great.

So on with the pics.

All projects start with a good plan!

1/48th scale model to use as a guide.

Show general assembly of top and bottom sections.

Wooden tail section with the 2 plastic formed ones.

Hmmm Joe thinks the tail section looks A-OK!!!

Raw form of helicoptor with tail section in place.

Further along and needing to check out the doors.
