VAL VILLE, FRANCE
PART 36

By: Irish SEAL13

June 1st, 1944

So we had decided to leave the town alive to fight another day rather than to die surrounded like dogs. We gathered what we could carry and left our town, our base, our home for good.

We settled down in the woods not too far from Val Ville but far enough and in deep cover of the woods that we would not be found by the Germans. We heard a loud rumbling sound about 2 hours after we had left Val Ville, we went to a clearing and saw a German Hetzer tank destroyer had moved in.

The next day, the Fallschirmjagers came in and armed the town with German weapons. There were way too many Germans in the town for us to fight. Skip got the U.S. radio working but all we could get was static.

Skip and Paul went in closer to take a look on what the Germans were doing, but things did not go good for them.

Meanwhile, back in the woods, we all felt like something big was coming down and we were going to be in the middle of it.
