CUSTOM THOMPSONS
By: Rich

The two guns are the Thompson M1A1, and the one with the sling in the pics is the TUS version while the other is an older DML Thompson that has only been modified by the replacement of the swivels. I think I addressed some of the complaints by others on the board such as drilling the holes in the left side of the 30 rd stick magazine. The mag was also shortened by almost 1mm and a floor plate added. The only other thing that I added was a new rear sight, which unfortunately cannot be seen in these pics. The gun was left in it's three main parts while the wood grain painting was done. This started with an acrylic yellowish color then streaked with layers of burnt sienna, and burnt umber. The gun metal had powdered graphite rubbed in with a shortened stiff bristled paint brush then shot over with clear flat. I used two of the more correct swivels because I was in too big a hurry to make my own. I also used two of the kits buckles on the web sling. The sling itself came from a DML British late war respirator bag. I know these pics are sort of rough because I was in a hurry to send them to Ilaf last night so, if you cannot use them I at least have some proof that I am not using a DML gun on my figure. My choice of mercenary had me hunting for a couple of TUS items that I could use. This gun set was sent by Graeylin when he got your set. Mine floated around in the mail for a couple of weeks before arriving Tuesday! Anyway, I have the Thompson, a green rope, and since I changed to the Thompson from the TUS Uzi. I switched the BBi Browning Hi-Power to a TUS .45. Too bad it's covered up in the British flap over holster. LOL, I just felt that I had to do it.

I'm definitely glad you sent in some more pics of Captain Haight. He sure was a cool contest entry and definitely one of my favorites. He would have made a fantastic box figure on his own. And nice work on that Thompson too old buddy. A fantastic photo set for your first photo page submission my friend. Hopefully we'll see much more from you in the future. Special thanks for sending these cool projects in and sharing them with us. - GL
