GURKHA IN THE U.S. ARMY
By: Graeylin

A very simple kitbash, based on a photo and information in one of my research books.

Apparently, for a while, the OSS in the China/India/Burma Theater had a few Gurkha's attached to them. In late 1944/1945, at least, these Gurkha's were part of the US Rangers, assigned to assist the OSS field agents in their work. There's not much info about them at all, but my bash is made from an official US War Department photo of a "US Gurkha Ranger, attached to the OSS field HQ in the CIB theater".

They were kitted out in US HBT wool shirts/trousers, with US insignia. Their equipment was a mix, it seemed, of US webgear and equipment, and their original British gear.

here, my Ranger Gurkha wears his British Army boots and puttees, an HBT uniform over a British T shirt. His belt and first aid kits are US, but he carries a British Canteen, and a STEN bayonet (for some reason; It isn't explained, but pictures show Gurkha's carrying a Thompson and a STEN bayonet, so I thought it would be more interesting that way too). His weapon of choice is the US Thompson, and he has spare magazines in his US web pouch. He was issued a US M1 steel pot, but prefers his Gurkha slouch hat. And, of course, he has his Kukri, as no Gurkha would be without it.

Lots of 21C items here, including the Ranger HBT uniform and helmet, pouches, Thompson, slouch hat and kukri.

Simple, but very cool my friend. A great new project from you! Special thanks for sending him in and letting us take a peek at him. -- GL
