BEAN'S WWII 1943 GPW JEEP
By: Bean

(Yes, it's a Ford GPW, not a Willy's MB. The steering wheel and seats look more like the Ford version, so I went with that. Otherwise, Ford's and Willy's are basically identical.)

Main components:
SOTW (first run from 98') body Tamiya Mountaineer frame, 3spd transmission, and 4WD drivetrain (heavily customized to fit a jeep) Futaba 4 channel radio.

The first night after I bought the SOTW body, I had a vision to make it into the ultimate 1/6th/RC vehicle. A year and a half, and 13 pounds later, here's what I got. The only main part I haven't finished yet is to paint the division markings and the rear white stars. Hope you enjoy it. Vince and Tony my two mechanics are going to talk a little about it. Yes Tony is actually Dragon's Erich, but recently he's defected to the US to work as a technician in the ordinance division. (Below, the phrases in parenthesis, are narration by me.). -- Bean

Vince: Well Tony, what's our orders for the day.
Tony: HQ said they want us to show the different components of a jeep to a newspaper correspondent they're sending over. I hear people in America are really going wild over this car.

Vince: Hey look, here he comes now.
Tony: Good timing.
Correspondent: Hello there I'm George Ichabod Joe from the New York Times. Could ya tell me a little bit about the bells and whistles of this little car while I take some photos?
Vince: Sure, no problem.

Tony: Well first off, this particular Jeep has early model hand crank windshield wipers (really work, made from brass).

Tony: Next, here's a view of the front passenger area. Amenities here include the steering (turns with the wheels), horn (works), switches for the lights (works), dash lights (works), choke, and throttle (turns engine sound on/off). Note the dash lights are on in this picture. Below are the shifters for the transmission and transfer case. (Shifter moves through three positions in connection with the Tamiya 3spd tranny)

Vince: Hey Tony, step on that brake pedal. There you can see the brake lights with their regulation black out covers. (brake pedal turns on rear lights. Also, gas and brake pedals move in sync with R/C speed control)

Vince: And while we're at it ya might as well show 'em the lights.
Tony: Ok, let me just pull the switch.

Vince: Alright I'm blind, that's enough! (Those are Halogen "Maglite" bulbs)
