F22 RAPTOR
By: GreenLeader

I decided to do a few shots of my old Fairland Toys 1/6th F22 Raptor Jet. Of course, it's way underscale for it to be anywhere close to 1/6th scale, but it's still a pretty impressive piece, coming in at a massive 45" long with a wing span around 35". So it really looks much more impressive than the old Irwin GI Joe blow molded jet. This is made out of hard plastic too, more like vehicles you would see in the GI Joe 3 3/4" line. The cockpit canopy is soft, flexible plastic though, so it won't crack. And as you can see, it's slightly tinted blue.

This thing was a JC Penney's Christmas catalog exclusive, somewhere around 2005, I think. The box says copyright 2002, but I don't think that's right, I think this came out later than that. I'm glad I picked it up though because it's really a unique toy and definitely in my opinion the coolest 12" figure toy plane that's ever been made.

The pilot is just a Timeless Adventure Team fuzzy head Joe with the old Classic Collection FAO Schwarz exclusive F15 fighter pilot uniform. The uniform fits him pretty good and since the plane is sort of updated old-school GI Joe looking, I figured I'd go with the vintage GI Joe look rather than the more modern Joe. Of course, an old TUS baby face would have looked cool in it too.

I haven't pulled this thing out in years and didn't remember that it was a real bear to put together, so I think I'm just going to leave it together and maybe try to hang it from the ceiling somewhere. I really had forgot how impressive looking it was too, even so underscaled. My pictures really don't do it justice. For some reason, it looks shorter and squatter in my photos than it really is. The only real shot where you can really judge the size of it is the one from above with the Joe laying flat on the ground.

Maybe when the summer rolls around, I'll try to get some better outdoor shots and maybe a pic of someone holding it so you can really see how huge this thing is. Oh yeah - and maybe some photos of the rear end of it too, which I seem to have forgotten in this photo shoot :)
