CUSTOM 1/6TH FIGURES
By: Gyrene

These overcoat clad figures are members of the 1st Marine Division (Reinforced) during the Chosin Reservoir campaign, Korea, NOV-DEC 1950. The fellow in the beret is a member of 41 Independent Commando, Royal Marines which was attached to 1st MarDiv at that time. They were issued US weapons and cold weather gear but proudly retained their berets and battle dress. They all reflect the brutally cold Korean winter of 50-51 wearing their barely adequate WW2 era overcoats and shoepacs. The BAR man especially shows the "thousand yard stare" from too much cold, too little sleep and too many Chinese. (I'm working on a diorama depicting a jeep, and a squad of Marines somewhere on the 78 mile walk from Yudam-ni to the sea.)

The smokey wearing figure is a Parris Island Drill Instructor circa late 60's to 1976 in the pre-camouflage utilities days. He wears to old sateen utilities, spit shined boots, DI duty belt and an M-1951 field jacket just like the one I wore in the 70's. He still doesn't have his rank on his field jacket collar or his nameplate over his right breast pocket (per RTR SOP), but he's a work in progress.

The khaki clad Marine with the Lewis gun and slung Thompson SMG is a Marine during the early Banana Wars of the 1920's wearing a homemade (by me) P1912 summer uniform. He is understandably worn out from chasing bandits through the Central American jungle.

The brown camo figure is a USMC rifleman from the 2nd Marine Division during the battle of Tarawa, WW2.

My goal is to produce museum quality 1/6 figures worthy of display anywhere as a tribute to the Marines who went before me (& my contemporaries in Vietnam). I have a bit of an advantage in detail accuracy since I have actually owned, worn or handled each of the full sized items on my figures as far back as WW1. (I used to collect militaria, too)

Wow! Some fantastic looking figures here my friend! I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't want these guys displayed in their collection. I particularly love the BAR Gunner, but all of them were cool. Special thanks for sending all these cool projects in and sharing them with us. -- GL
