2nd Battalion
Parachute Regiment Officer at Arnhem

By: Sharpie

I’ve been doing a great deal of reading lately about Market Garden and the British Parachute battalions at Oosterbeek and Arnhem. After coming across a deal on a TUS Brit Para, I had to bring it to life. This figure, although he has the face of Sean Connery, who played MG Roy Urquhart in “A Bridge Too Far”, is actually a combination of two men: Lt. Col. John Frost, and Maj. Digby Tatham Warter. Digby wore his red beret instead of his helmet, led a bayonet charge wearing a bowler hat he found in a local shop, and also brought an umbrella into Holland, which he used to disable a German APC (really happened). Additionally, he sent the famous last radio message from Arnhem, “Out of ammo, God save the King!” (Maj. Digby Tatham Warter, Arnhem)

Lt. Col. John Frost, played by Anthony Hopkins, was the commander of the Paras on the ground at Arnhem, never minced words, and famously said, “I make it a point to not run under fire. I tend to show a great deal of contempt for German bullets.” (Lt. Col. John Frost commander 2nd Para BN, Arnhem)

Both men have an almost unbelievable story of courage and heroism, that only a fool of an Englishman could tell. It’s worth reading about.

Another really great looking project there Sharpie! I always loved the 21st Brit Para. He definitely makes for a nice display piece. Awesome job again! Special thanks for sending this one in and sharing it with us. - GL
