NAVY CORPSMAN
CHARLES "DOC" W. COOK

By: Gray Ghost 6

Here is a single shot of a figure I made for my wife's boss, Charles "Doc" W. Cook. He was a Navy Corpsman in Vietnam. I don't know how well the plaque will show up so I'll give you a brief history of his roll. He enlisted in the Navy in 1964 and was trained as a Navy Medic. In 1965 he was deployed to Vietnam, and was assigned to Co.E, 2d Bn. 9th Marine Regt. 3rd MARINE DIV as a Combat Medic. His rank was HM3, which is a Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class.

The "Doc" nickname is what his platoon called him. What is interesting is his Platoon Sgt would not allow him to carry a standard medical bag. Instead he was to carry an ammo can with all of his medical supplies inside and also carry extra ammo. He was to disquise himself as much as possible as a regular Marine foot soldier. As a matter of fact he and his squad were pictured on the front of Time Magazine, which I used quite extensively for research when assembling this figure.

My wife and I presented this figure to him on his birthday earlier this week. I must say he was very impressed with the figure and now displays it in what he calls the War Room. Since leaving the Navy in 1966 he went onto become a Lawyer and father of two beautiful women. -- Gray Ghost 6

Very very nice work Gray Ghost 6! That's one sharp looking Corpsman for sure. Special thanks for sending this cool tribute in and sharing it with all of us. -- GL
