Custom VC RPD machinegun
By: B.C. Ries

Here are some pictures of my latest 1/6th project. I have wanted one of these for my VC forces for a couple of years now. I think the RPD is one of the ugliest weapons ever made. It rivals the Japanese type 11 MG as the ugliest of the Italian designs. Of course I like interesting and ugly looking weapons for my 1/6th troops.

The RPD at first appears to be drum fed but it is really a belt fed weapon with the belt held in a round ammo can suspended from underneath the weapon. When it was in service it was the lightest belt fed weapon in general use. It fires 7.62X 39 ammunition and is extremely reliable,

Mine started out as 21st Degtyrev LMG from the Soviet weapons set. The stock foregrip and pistol grip are wood. Barrel and tripod and drum are brass, plastic and brass for other details. I also made a sling with metal and leather fittings.

I also included a picture of an American Vietnam era GI machinegunner (last photo) I recently put togeather to show the VC's counterpart.

Awesome work again old buddy. I've been hoping to see this weapon in 1/6th for a while now. You've done a brilliant job on it. Some cool outdoor shots of your VC toting it too. Of course very nice U.S. 'Nam gunner there at the end as well. Terrific work all around for sure. Special thanks for sending in these sharp projects and sharing it with us. -- GL
