TUS JAPANESE RIFLE PROJECT
By: BC Ries

When the new TUS Japanese weapons set come out I was really pleased my favorites were the Model 96 LMG and the Model 100 SMG. I really wished that they would have made a short Model 38 Carbine instead of the Model 99 Paratrooper takedown rifle since there were alot more short carbines made than takedown rifles, Since I really didn't want the takedown rifle and I wanted some short carbines badly I decided to get out the toolbox and put in some work.

I like to get a picture of the weapon I'm making and scale it down on my printer so I have something to look at when I start cutting. I got a good picture of a Model 38 Carbine and I scaled it to 1/6th size.

I figures out how much to cut out behind the front band and used a razorsaw to remove about 1/2" of plastic. This is also a good time to use a small round file to file in some finger groves.

Glue the rifle back togeather at this point you can see from this picture that I filed in the finger grooves and sliced off the takedown wedge which a carbine wouldn't have. I like to glue the rifle togeather after each section is removed so I can keep it straight sometimes when you have multiple pieces it won't line up properly and you file away alot of material in the wrong places trying to correct the alignment.

Here I take about 1/2" of plastic out from in front of the front band. After you get a get the pieces to match up by sanding them down (or if your more talented than I am and you made a couiple of a perfect cuts) glue them back togeather minus the 1/2" piece.

Cut the rifle at the takedown joint (this is optional but it looks to me like the rifle is not properly aligned at the joint so I cut it and sand the ends until they look straight when I put them back together)

Glue it back together.
