Operation Mikado- Falkland war
B squadron of the 22nd SAS were ordered to draw up plans to desroy the Exocets missles and planes that could deliver them on the airbase on mainland Argentina. Brigadier Peter de la Billier, then director, special forces, inspired by the Israeli raid on Entebbe proposes that the SAS perform a tactical landing and assult on the Argentine airbase. A plan was drawn up that B squadron was to fly in 2 C-130 Hercules from the R.A.F squadron directly from Ascension island on the Argentine Rio Grande airbase at Tierra Fuego, once on the ground, the 60 men or sowould assult the airfield destroying the missles and aircrafts. They would also storm the officers mess taking out the pilots, following the attack, the SAS would E&E to friendly Chili, either on the C-130s, if they survived or on the own. It soon dawned on both the SAS and the Thatcher administration that the operation would most likly fail, so the mission was scrubbed. Stay tune for the recon mission.
