In the mid 1870's, in Wales, Cyress Mcgee, a prominent professor at a
university began studying pathology and forensic sciences on his own to
asssist the constabulary in solving numerous murders. His studies took
him to the surrounding counties in search of forgotten or less visited
graveyards. At these sites, he, and his mute assistant, would exhume
the bodies of long dead strangers to see how the human body decomposed
over time.
Then, in the late 1880's, he lost his wife to smallpox. This devastated
Cyress. He had a nervous breakdown and was commited to an asylum. His
servant would often visit and cared for the McGee estate. At the turn
of the century, not being able to bear the loss of his wife any longer,
he had a plan for escape. He had to see her.
