I was One Tired trooper after walking around this fort. Not sure many guys will ever get down to Fort Davis Texas, but this national park is worth a stop. Not sure if you are aware, or others, but last week was FREE Entry into any national park. I found out when visiting this Fort.
Anyway, the cool part of this fort is that it was started prior to the civil war, and abandon by the union once the war started. Then was rebuilt to fight the Indian Wars... Kind of hard to tell any of this by the pictures, also this Fort housed the black Buffalo Soldiers. So a very interesting stop. I think if anyone is planning to go to Big Bend National Park, this would be a place to stop and check out. Also for the guys interested in Astrometry, the McDonald Observatory is there also... WAY COOL for $8. They had an 82", 107", and a 9meter telescope there. |
