THE FIRE MISSION By: Groundpounder & Buzz

The Mission A small recon squad of the 1st Infantry Division gets their orders. The orders call for a recon sweep of an area that has seen alot of VC activity in recent weeks. HQ wants the area reconned right away. Several fire bases in the area have had increased shelling by VC mortar teams. The team will be choppered into within 300-400 meters of the AO. They will patrol their way toward the targeted area. The squad is a very experienced recon element of the Delta Company. Their code name is Twister Charlie. Team members are First Sgt. Hallagan, RTO Buzz Mcquire, Shotgunner Jerry Boysel, M79 gunner E.B. Hill & at back door charlie David Call. All have at least 1 year in country, most are on at their 2nd TOD.

After unassing the chopper, the squad settled down in the jungle and laid dog for several minutes before moving out and working their way towards the target area.

Boysel takes up the next spot and RTO Mcguire takes up the next slot.

Corporal David Call walks Back Door Charlie to make sure the squad isn't being followed.

After travelling quite some distance, Top Hallagan raises his hand. He has spotted something. He quickly backs the group up very quietly. When at a safe distance, he tells the squad that he spotted a couple of VC in a clearing up ahead. "We almost walked right into their back door!" He decides to get a little further away and decide what the plan is.
